Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt Conference of the Parties COP 27

Sharm El Sheikh (6-18 November 2022)

  Introduction:
  • Addressing the current climate crisis requires strong and swift collective action.
  • Egypt's vision for the COP27 presidency is to move from the negotiation and planning phase to the implementation phase.
  • Everyone needs to coordinate efforts to fulfill environmental commitments and commitments. Everyone is at an important stage requiring the transformation of conventions into action. Globally, changing weather events affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people, and rising global average temperatures have alarming consequences for human beings and all other forms of life on Earth.
  • Through its presidency of the Conference, Egypt seeks to mobilize collective efforts to combat the negative effects of climate change in order to secure a sustainable future for all.
  • Hosting the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties in Sharm el-Sheikh this year coincides with the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in the 30 years that the world has come a long way in combating climate change and its negative effects on our planet, We are now competent to better understand the variables behind climate change as well as better assessment of its effects, and enlargement of available tools to address the causes and consequences of such change.
  • Thirty years after the UNFCCC, as well as the convening of twenty-six conferences of the parties, we now have a clearer understanding of the extent of the potential climate crisis, what needs to be done to address it effectively, and the urgent need to act with regard to rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, taking the necessary steps to help those in need of support to adapt to the negative effects of climate change, and finding the appropriate formula that would ensure the availability of the necessary means of implementation that is crucial for developing countries in contributing to this global effort, especially in the midst of consecutive international crises, including the food security crisis This is exacerbated by climate change, desertification crises and water scarcity, especially in Africa, which suffers the most.
  • In 2015, the world came together and everyone showed strong willpower that contributed to the embracing of the Paris Agreement, today and in light of the clear messages in the recent reports of the international body on climate change, and after the COP26 in Glasgow, we are again called to act quickly if we really want to achieve the goal of reducing 1.5 degrees, strengthen our resilience, seize opportunities to shift towards sustainability if we mutually think creatively and show the necessary political will.
  • Egypt and its people look forward to welcoming everyone to the COP27 conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, where we trust that the world will come together again to reaffirm its commitment to the global climate agenda despite the difficulties involved, and I am confident that all parties and stakeholders will come to Sharm el-Sheikh with a stronger will and higher ambition on mitigation and adaptation to climate issues.
