Power restored to thousands in downtown Asheville, Buncombe Co.

ASHEVILLE, NC (WSPA) - Around 20,000 customers were without power for around three hours in Asheville and Buncombe County after storms rolled through, Wednesday afternoon. According to Duke Energy, the outages were centered in downtown Asheville and northern areas of the city and Buncombe County. The outage happened around 2:50pm. Power was restored around three hours later. The outage was caused by damage to Duke Energy's transmission lines caused by a thunderstorm. According to Asheville Fire Department, they were handling numerous elevator rescues due to the outage. Numerous traffic lights were out in downtown and northern parts of Asheville, officials were reminding drivers that these intersections should be treated as a four-way stop.
