LOGAN — A blown transformer knocked out electricity to residents and businesses on the southwest side of Logan Tuesday afternoon. The outage occurred just after 1 p.m. and lasted around 30 minutes. Light and Power Technical Operations Manager Chris Niemann said the outage was caused by a blown transformer near 1800 South 1200 West. Electrical lines in the area were already lowered at the time, because of a tree trimming crew that were nearby, cutting willow trees. The blown transformer and tree trimming work made for the perfect storm, as linemen rushed to determine the cause of the outage. The outage caused further headaches for motorists, as the outage affected traffic lights at multiple intersections along 1000 West. UDOT was able to use portable generators to temporarily power the traffic lights until electricity was restored. Power was fully restored to all areas after crews located and replaced the blown transformer.
