GREAT BARRINGTON — An unexplained power outage early Monday evening blacked out a residential neighborhood and forced the cancellation of a municipal meeting at Town Hall.
But the power was quickly restored by around 6 p.m.
The power loss, which hit shortly before 5 p.m., affected more than 1,600 customers, some Main Street offices and businesses, as well as homes to the west of downtown, though some were spared.
Monday's regularly held Select Board meeting, with a packed agenda, was canceled and postponed to Nov. 13.
It is unclear why the power went out. National Grid spokeswoman Maura McLaughlin said an exact cause had not been identified, but that it might have had something to do with equipment on one utility pole.
Some residents said that they had two brief outages earlier in the day.
