A contractor clearing out trees near Moss Lake knocked out power for some Duke Energy customers, according to reports from N.C. Department of Transportation. More than 470 customers went without power Monday afternoon when a group clearing limbs near the intersection of N.C. 180 and N.C. 150 damaged power lines. The outage was first reported around 1:30 p.m. to Duke Energy. Outages spread out from Elizabeth Avenue in Shelby up toward the Foothills Shooting Complex on Cherryville Road and from Moss Lake to the Allendale community, according to Duke Energy’s outage map. Duke Energy crews were still trying to repair the damage around 4 p.m. The Department of Transportation sent out a notice of delays along N.C. 150 and 180 due to the damaged power lines. Law enforcement was sent out to help direct traffic around the affected area. The energy company did not have a time frame of when power would be restored to all customers
